We start with three nights at The LaLiT Grand Palace, built in 1910 as a summer residence for Maharaja Pratap Singh, on the slopes above Dal Lake with chinar lawns among the largest in Srinagar. From there your guide takes you into the old city by its lanes and canals, to papier-mache and walnut-wood workshops, and to Dachigam for a morning in the forest.

Gulmarg is two nights at The Khyber, near the gondola, with a spa for the afternoon after the ridge. Pahalgam is two nights at Pine N Peak, the most polished hotel in the Lidder valley, with Aru and Betaab Valley by union taxi and a guided riverside walk. We hold one private wazwan dinner, cooked by a waza and served the traditional way on a shared trami.

Questions

About this trip

What makes this a signature trip?

The three hotels are the most comfortable in their places: a 1910 Dogra palace above Dal Lake, The Khyber in Gulmarg and ITC's Pine N Peak in Pahalgam. You also have a private guide for all eight days, a private shikara at dawn, a wazwan dinner cooked by a waza, and every ticket and permit arranged in advance.

Why is the price ₹1,45,000 per person?

Top rooms in Kashmir cost ₹18,000–70,000 a night for a double, and The Khyber is the most expensive. Add a private car and guide for eight days, a private wazwan, gondola tickets and permits. The price assumes twin sharing in spring or autumn outside peak holiday weeks; June and late December cost more.

Is this trip good for a honeymoon?

Yes. It is built at an unhurried pace with afternoons free, spa time in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, a private shikara and evenings in quiet hotels. We can request lake-view or palace-wing rooms at The LaLiT and a meadow-view room at The Khyber, subject to availability at booking.

Can we replace the palace with a houseboat?

Yes. We can swap one or two Srinagar nights to a top-grade houseboat on Nigeen or Dal Lake. Houseboats give the lake at your door and carved-wood interiors, but they are smaller and quieter than a palace hotel. Many couples like one houseboat night between two palace nights.

Will we see Nanga Parbat from Gulmarg?

On clear days, yes, from the Apharwat ridge and sometimes from the meadow edge, far to the north. It needs a clear morning and Phase 2 to be running. Autumn mornings and some spring days give the best chance. Cloud often builds by late morning, so we take the first gondola slots.

How safe is it to travel in Kashmir?

Tourist areas have a strong police and army presence, and the hotels on this trip have their own security. Incidents do happen in the region, so we follow official advisories, keep to main tourist areas and adjust plans on local advice. Check current government advisories and current status before you travel.

Can vegetarians eat well on this trip?

Yes. All three hotels have full vegetarian menus. Kashmiri vegetarian dishes include dum aloo, nadru yakhni made with lotus stem, haak greens, and paneer in a red Kashmiri gravy. For the wazwan, we can arrange a Kashmiri Pandit-style vegetarian dinner instead if you prefer.

Do we need special clothing?

Pack layers: Gulmarg and Pahalgam are 8–10 °C cooler than Srinagar, and evenings can be cold even in June. Bring a warm jacket, walking shoes for meadows, and a scarf for shrines. In the old city and at Hazratbal, dress modestly with arms and legs covered.

What is the best season for this signature trip?

Late April to June for green meadows and snow on the peaks, and September to October for clear skies and autumn colour. July and August bring Amarnath traffic to Pahalgam. For snow and skiing, see our winter Gulmarg signature trip from late December to March.
