The Grand Dewachen, Rangrik
The most comfortable hotel in the Spiti valley, at Rangrik village across the river from Kaza. Built in the local style with heated rooms, a restaurant and views of the valley, it is the base for our signature Spiti trips. Comfortable rather than lavish: this is still a remote valley.
The Grand Dewachen sits in Rangrik, a farming village about 7 km from Kaza on the far bank of the Spiti river. It was built in the valley's style, with thick walls and flat roofs, and it is the most comfortable place to sleep in Spiti. Rooms are warm, with attached bathrooms and hot water, and the restaurant cooks a mix of Indian, Tibetan and continental dishes.
Staying in Rangrik gives quiet nights and a dark sky away from Kaza's lights, while keeping Key, Kibber, Langza and the Pin valley within an easy morning's drive. The altitude is the same as Kaza, about 3,650 m and slightly above, so the usual rules apply: an easy first day, plenty of water, no alcohol on the first night. The hotel is seasonal; check current status before you travel and book well ahead for July and August.
