Mid-range Heritage hotel · Mussoorie & Landour
Rokeby Manor
A restored 1840s stone estate on the Landour ridge near Char Dukan and St Paul's Church, now a small heritage hotel with wood-floored rooms, a cafe and quiet gardens among the deodars. The best base for walking Landour.
Rokeby Manor dates from the 1840s, when Landour was a young sanatorium town, and takes its name from Sir Walter Scott's poem Rokeby. In the twentieth century it served as a guest house run by Methodist missionaries before being restored as a boutique hotel. The stone walls, fireplaces, wooden floors and sloping roofs of the old house have been kept.
Its location is the point: a few minutes' walk from Char Dukan, St Paul's Church and the start of the Landour loop, away from the noise of Mussoorie's Mall. Rooms are individual in size and style, and the hotel runs a cafe and restaurant on site. Book early for October to December, when Landour's clear-day views and fireside evenings draw repeat guests.
Why we use it
- In Landour itself, steps from Char Dukan and the ridge walk
- Restored nineteenth-century building with fireplaces and gardens
- Quiet, far from the Mall Road crowds

Mussoorie & Landour
Mussoorie is the hill station 35 km above Dehradun at about 2,005 m; Landour is the older, quieter cantonment on the ridge above it. Come for oak-and-deodar walks, Raj-era churches and cemeteries, George Everest's house and winter views of the Bandarpunch range. Two or three nights suit most trips; avoid holiday weekends.

Questions
About Rokeby Manor
How far is Rokeby Manor from Mussoorie Mall Road?
About 4–5 km uphill, 15–20 minutes by car. Taxis drop you at the hotel. Most guests stay on the Landour ridge and go down to the Mall only once.
Is Rokeby Manor good for a winter stay?
Yes. Rooms are heated and many have fireplaces, and winter brings the clearest snow-peak views from Landour. Roads can ice after snowfall in January and February; follow the hotel's advice on arrival times.
Is Rokeby Manor suitable for children?
Older children who enjoy walking will like Landour. The hotel is small and quiet, with steps and slopes around the property, so it suits families with teenagers more than toddlers.
