Lchang Nang Retreat, Nubra
A cottage retreat in the poplar and willow groves of Tegar village, near Sumur on the Nubra arm of the valley. Open from about May to mid-October, it is the most polished place to stay in Nubra and a calm base for Diskit, Hunder and Panamik.
Lchang Nang sits in Tegar village on the quieter Nubra river side of the valley, away from the camps at Hunder. Cottages are spread through a garden of poplar and willow, with views to the mountains, and meals use vegetables and fruit from the valley wherever possible.
At about 3,100 m, Nubra is lower than Leh, so a night or two here helps after the Khardung La crossing. From Tegar, Samstanling gompa at Sumur is a short drive, and Diskit, Hunder and the Panamik hot springs are within easy reach. Turtuk is a long day trip. The retreat is seasonal; check current status and dates before you travel.
Why we use it
- Quietest arm of Nubra
