Banjara Camp and Retreat, Sangla
A riverside lodge in the Sangla valley, set in an apple orchard by the Baspa, with rooms in a stone-and-timber building, cottages and Swiss tents. The best-known comfort stay in the valley, and a calm base for Chitkul and Kamru.
Banjara Camps & Retreats opened its first property here in the 1990s, and the Sangla camp remains one of the most established places to stay in Kinnaur. It sits in an orchard beside the Baspa river, a short drive from Sangla bazaar, with snow peaks rising on both sides. Accommodation is in a two-storey building of local stone and wood, independent cottages in the same style and Swiss tents with attached bathrooms.
The atmosphere is deliberately simple: rooms have no TV, Wi-Fi is limited or absent, and the camp avoids plastic. Meals are served together, and staff arrange walks to Kamru, Batseri and Rakchham and day trips to Chitkul. It suits families, couples and older travellers who want comfort and good food in a remote valley. It usually operates in the main season and closes in deep winter; check current status before you travel.
