Take a bus or shared Sumo from Srinagar to Bandipora early in the morning, then a shared Sumo from Bandipora to Dawar, which usually departs in the morning and fills quickly. Carry Aadhaar or passport and photocopies for checkposts. It is the cheapest option but needs an early start.

JKSRTC and private buses link Srinagar with Bandipora several times a day. From Bandipora, continue by shared Sumo to Gurez. Buses are slower but comfortable for luggage. Some seasons have seen direct services to Gurez; check current status at the bus stand.
