Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake

The classic permit day trip from Gangtok: 40 km east on the Nathu La road, climbing about 2,100 m past army camps and waterfalls to Tsomgo Lake at 3,750 m. Only registered Sikkim tourist vehicles with permits may go, booked through Gangtok agencies.

Most Gangtok agencies sell seats in shared jeeps leaving around 7–8 am and returning early afternoon. The price covers vehicle and permit processing. You travel with strangers and follow the group's schedule, but it is the cheapest way for solo travellers and couples. Give ID and photos a day ahead.

A reserved jeep or SUV with driver gives you control of timing and stops at Baba Mandir and, for Indian nationals on permitted days, the Nathu La. Prices rise in peak season. The agency arranges the permit; carry original ID.
