Almora and Kasar Devi to Jageshwar

A short, pretty drive east from Almora on the Pithoragarh road, past the Chitai Golu temple to Artola, then into the Jataganga valley and its deodar forest. About 36 km and 1.25–1.5 hours.

Shared jeeps leave Almora for Jageshwar and towns on the Pithoragarh road through the morning. Ask at the taxi stand near the bus station. Some jeeps go only to Artola, 3 km short of the temples; from there walk or wait for another jeep.

Buses towards Pithoragarh, Dhaulchhina and Seraghat pass Artola. Get off at the Jageshwar turning and walk 3 km along the stream past Dandeshwar, a pleasant walk in dry weather. A few buses go to Jageshwar itself.

A taxi lets you stop at Chitai and Dandeshwar and is the best choice for a day trip, with waiting time included. Agree the waiting charge before you start.
