Sunset on Reo Purgyil from above Nako
Climb a short way above the village to watch the evening light on Reo Purgyil, at 6,816 m the highest mountain in Himachal Pradesh.
Reo Purgyil rises on the border ridge above Nako to 6,816 m, the highest point in Himachal Pradesh. From the village itself the view is partly hidden; climb 15–20 minutes up the slopes above the houses for a clear line to the peak.
Go an hour before sunset with a warm layer. The light moves up the snow and rock as the valley falls into shadow. It is a good, gentle acclimatisation walk on your first evening above 3,500 m.
Stay on paths, avoid fields and walk down before dark, carrying a torch. Do not fly drones here; this is a sensitive border area.
