The road's end at Zero Point
Drive about 20 km beyond Yumthang to Yume Samdong, called Zero Point, where the civilian road ends above 4,500 m among snowfields and bare ridges. It is cold, high and short, and access depends on permits and the weather.

The trip adds 3–4 hours to the Yumthang morning and costs extra for the vehicle. Some days, snow, landslides or army instructions mean only Yumthang is possible. Stalls at Zero Point sell tea and snacks in season, and some rent boots and coats.
Altitude is a serious issue here. You are going from about 2,700 m in Lachung to over 4,500 m in a few hours, which is a fast climb. Keep the stop short, avoid running or playing hard in the snow, drink water and descend if you feel headache, nausea or dizziness. Talk to your doctor before going with young children or if you have heart or lung conditions.

Before you book
How high is Zero Point in North Sikkim?
Yume Samdong, called Zero Point, is above 4,500 m. Because you drive up from Lachung at about 2,700 m in a few hours, the risk of altitude sickness is real.
Is Zero Point included in the Yumthang tour?
Usually not. It is an add-on that costs about ₹3,000–5,000 extra per vehicle and depends on permits and road conditions. Ask your agency when booking.
Can foreigners go to Zero Point?
