Bhismaknagar lies in the foothills about 30 km from Roing. Archaeologists have uncovered brick walls, gateways and a large raised complex usually described as a palace, the remains of a fortified town of the Chutiya kingdom that ruled parts of upper Assam in the medieval period. Much of the site is still under forest, so walking it gives a sense of discovery.

In local tradition the site is the capital of King Bhismaka, whose daughter Rukmini married Krishna in the Mahabharata, and the Idu Mishmi have their own stories about Rukmini. Historians link the brickwork to the Chutiya period. Ask a local guide to show you the main walls and gateways and explain both histories.

Go in the morning when it is cooler. Paths can be overgrown and slippery, so wear closed shoes and carry water. There are few facilities at the site. Respect the ruins: do not climb on walls or remove bricks. Combine it with a slow return to Roing for lunch.
