Rainforest trek to Haldibari and Firmbase
Walk from Deban into the heart of Namdapha with a forest guide and porters, camping at Haldibari and Firmbase among giant trees, river crossings and the sounds of the lowland rainforest.
The classic trek in Namdapha follows forest trails east from Deban into the park. Haldibari, a day's walk in, is a simple camp in the forest; Firmbase, further on, sits near the Noa-Dihing among tall trees. The route crosses streams and sometimes the river itself, climbs over ridges and passes through dense bamboo and evergreen forest.
This is a serious trip. You need permission from the forest department in Miao, a forest guide, porters to carry tents and food, and your own good boots and rain gear. Trails are muddy, leeches are everywhere after rain, and routes change when trees fall or river levels shift. Plan 3–5 days depending on how far you go and how much time you want for birds and wildlife.
The rewards are rare: nights in the forest, gibbons and hornbills overhead, and the chance of tracks of larger mammals. Carry all your rubbish out. Rules, fees and trail status change, so check current status before you travel and arrange the trek at least a few weeks ahead.

In simple camps such as Haldibari and Firmbase, usually in tents carried by porters or in basic forest shelters. Bring a warm sleeping bag; nights are cool in winter.
